Camp locations and number of victims

Soviet prisoners of war are found in thousands of camps and tens of thousands of labour battalions in cities and rural areas. The map shows only a few examples. The numbers given for deaths at specific locations are still partially based on estimates made in 1944/45 after exhumation of corpses hastily buried in mass graves. They are sometimes corrected after research effort. In total, over two million imprisoned Red Army members die in the occupied territories of the Soviet Union, some 500,000 in the so-called General Government for the Occupied Polish Region, more than 13,000 in occupied Norway, and about 400,000 in the German Reich.
